UTILITY back, Adriaan Carelse, will earn his 50th cap for the Boland Cavaliers when his team takes on DHL Western Province in a SuperSport Rugby Challenge clash at Esselen Park in Worcester on Saturday.

Carelse replaces Jacquin Jansen at fullback who falls out of the matchday squad. Flanker, Ludio Williams, has been declared fit again after suffering a leg injury against the SWD Eagles last month and replaces Kenan Cronje who drops to the bench. Cavaliers coach, Randall Modiba, has also selected two debutants in the form of former SA Schools scrumhalf, Jaywin Juries and Robertson Rugby Club centre, Andries Viljoen on the bench. Viljoen is a former Boland under 20 player.

This top of the South Section encounter will form part of one of South Africa’s biggest club derbies as Young Hamiltons is set to take on Villagers Worcester in a Boland Grand Challenge club match at the same venue.

According to Duane Heath, tournament director of SARU’s Gold Cup, it promises to be a great spectacle and one of the biggest club games in the country. “We were hoping that SuperSport would broadcast the game live but it seems unlikely now as one of the teams wasn’t willing to play at 12 noon. The (South Africa vs England) test match starts at 17h00 and because our game is now starting at 16h00, the best we can hope for now, is a recording of the match,” Heath said in a telephonic interview with
